Fort Worth began in 1849...the city and TCU
grew up together...when an
Army
camp was established on a bluff overlooking
the Trinity River.
After the Civil War, Texas ranchers and cowboys
rounded up thousands of wild longhorns and
drove them to Kansas. In the1870s, railroads
came to the city, and then the Stockyards were
built, turning Fort Worth into the end of the
cattle drive trail.
Fort Worth continues to wear its cowboys heritage
and exudes a prop-your-feet-up-and-stay-awhile
spirit. Smiles and nods are the norm. Optimism,
like a friendly handshake, is undeniable.
Yet, as much as Fort Worth began on the open
range, it thrives more today as a cosmopolitan
city. Downtown itself is only three miles from
campus. Where else can you take your pick of
more than 25 upscale eateries, see a movie,
attend a play, listen to a symphony or dance
under the stars...all within walking distance
of each other?
Fort Worth weather
Fort Worth has a relatively temperate climate
that rarely ever includes snow or ice
in the wintertime, and avoids excessively
sticky days in the summer.

Fort Worth is home to one of the finest museums
in the Southwest, the Kimbell Art Museum. In
fact, its cultural district includes the Modern
Art Museum of Fort Worth, Casa Manana, the
Amon Carter Museum and the Fort Worth Museum
of Science and Natural History. Downtown finds
the Fort Worth-Dallas Ballet, the Fort Worth
Opera, the Fort Worth Symphony and the world-class
Bass Performance Hall, called one of the top
10 opera houses in the world by Travel and
Leisure magazine.
And while the TCU Horned Frogs themselves
are considered the "home team" of
Fort Worth, other nearby sports teams include
the Texas Rangers, Dallas Cowboys, Dallas Stars
and Dallas Mavericks, and north of Fort Worth,
the rip-roaring Texas Motor Speedway. Those
looking for other entertainment won't be disappointed,
either. The Fort Worth Zoo is one minute from
campus, and the world-famous Stockyards just
a bit farther. Six Flags Over Texas is only
a short drive away, as is Hurricane Harbor.
Fort Worth is also home to some of America's
greatest corporations, including RadioShack,
Bell Helicopter-Textron, American Airlines,
Pier 1 Imports and Lockheed Martin. Other companies
that look to TCU for employees are Bank One,
Accenture, Intel, Frito-Lay and Electronic
Data Systems, just to name a few.
