From Wes K. Waggoner, Director of Freshman Admission

Dear Counselor,

I hope the new school year is off to a great start.  There are many things to report as we reflect on campus happenings over the last year.

Fall 2007 Freshmen Class Update:  This year’s freshman class underscores our tradition of attracting talented students who can best benefit from a TCU education. Chosen from nearly 12,000 applicants, the 1650 students in the Class of 2011 boast record SAT scores (32 points higher than last year), more males (41 percent of the class) and 18% students of color.  Furthermore, the acceptance rate went from 62.6% (Fall 2006) to 48.9% (Fall 2007).

Application Update:  As you may recall, last year was the first year of our exclusive on-line application process.  With an overall application increase of 38%, the new on-line application seems be popular with both students and parents.   As of September 1, we have already received more than 1000 applications and we look forward to another strong applicant pool.  The Office of Admission has added scanning technology in order to process applications both carefully and a bit more quickly.

Faculty News:  Over the last three years, TCU has added 59 new faculty and instructional positions to reduce class sizes and increase personalized attention, including 20 this year.  We’ve also recruited new staff to ensure the quality of our student services.

Construction Update:  More than $150 million of construction is under way or will be completed in 2007 — all in addition to the $300 million investment in the campus in recent years

  • College of Education faculty and students began the semester in the wonderful new J.E. and L.E. Mabee Foundation Education Complex

  • Students have moved into the Amon G. Carter and the Kellye Wright Samuelson residence halls, and the Teresa and Luther King and the Mary and Robert J. Wright residence halls are scheduled to open for the spring semester

  • Work on the Brown-Lupton University Union is on target for a summer 2008 completion

  • TCU Barnes & Noble Bookstore is scheduled to open in spring 2008

  • Athletic and student groups are using the new Sam Baugh Indoor Practice Facility & Cox Field

Please take a few minutes to review the enclosed recruitment materials.  Please feel free to contact me with any questions.

Sincerely,
Wes K. Waggoner
Director of Freshman Admission
