From Wes K. Waggoner, Director
of Freshman Admission
Dear Counselor,
I hope the new school year is off to a great
start. There are many things to report as we
reflect on campus happenings over the last year.
Fall 2008 Freshmen Class Update: This
year’s freshman class comes from a
record-breaking pool of nearly 12,200
applicants. Our new first-year students boast
the highest SAT scores in TCU’s history and the
highest percentage of students of color (20
percent).
Application Deadline Change: Having
experienced a record number of applications over
the last few years, we have decided to modify
our Early Action application deadline to
November 1. All applications (complete with
supporting documents) postmarked by November 1
will be considered for Early Action
consideration and applicants will be notified of
their decisions by January 1. Our scholarship
consideration deadline will remain December 15
(with a March 1 decision notification) and our
final deadline is February 15 (decisions will be
sent on April 1). Should you have questions
about the TCU application deadlines, please
visit our
deadline webpage.
New Campus Commons: Over two years and
$100 million later, the Campus Commons project
has been completed. With a 135,000 square foot
University Union, four multi-story residence
halls and a park-like greenway, students are
immersed in a community of learners – a place
where intellectual discussion and social
engagement co-mingle. At the heart of the Campus
Commons is the recently dedicated Brown-Lupton
University Union (known affectionately as the
BLUU). Flanking both sides of the Union are four
new residence halls (that opened in just the
last year). Each of the four residence halls
houses 150-160 students, who live in suite-style
rooms. Some suites include a living area, and
every student has a private room with a
full-size bed, desk and closet. In most of these
residence halls, two to four students share a
common bath. There are also a few single rooms
with private baths. All the halls have multiple
common lounges for study and student activities.
Covered walkways connect the halls to the Union.
Please feel free to contact
me with any questions.
Sincerely,
Wes K. Waggoner
