Middle School Education
As a middle school education or secondary education major, you’ll focus on appropriate teaching styles for middle school (grades 4-8) or secondary school (grades 8-12), and you’ll work with students in a number of classroom and informal learning environments
  • Go to the head of the class and get recruited to teach after graduating as a middle school education or secondary education major. Ninety-eight percent of education majors find work within one semester after graduation.
  • Get experience in local urban schools or student teach in Canada, Denmark, England, Holland, Mexico, Norway and Sweden.
  • Learn in the field at places like the Forth Worth Museum of Science and History, the Fort Worth Zoo, River Legacy Living Science Center and the Amon Carter Museum.
  • Become competent to teach a variety of students, including students with special needs and second language learners.

*If you major in an area other than education, you may earn a minor in Educational Studies (21 hours) and teaching certification if approved by the college of your major. Certification areas include: Art, Business Administration, Computer Science, Dance, French, Health, History, Journalism, Mathematics, Music, Physical Education, Spanish, Speech Communication, Special Education, and Theatre
 
Recent middle school education majors teach in grades 4-8, and secondary education majors teach in grades 8-12 in a variety of areas. Graduates are highly recruited by public and private schools.
