Religion
Religion majors and minors explore how people conceive of life in relation to that which is ultimate by looking at rituals, writings, artifacts and other cultural practices.
  • Jump right in to explore the depths of human life and thought, through courses covering the major world religions and Christianity from a variety of angles.
  • Develop strong critical reading and writing skills in course work that involves the many dimensions of human life.
  • Study at a university whose historic relationship with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) affirms that the study of religion is integral in a liberal arts and sciences education.
  • Become eligible for grants of one-half tuition if you are planning a full-time church vocation.
 
The Religion program includes courses like:
FrUnderstanding Religion (either Communities, Text & Ideas, or Society an Culture)
SoSophomore Seminar, plus another religion course
Jr3 Religion courses
SrSenior Seminar, plus 3 other religion courses

In addition to three different versions of the introductory course Understanding Religion, first-year students and sophomores can choose among such courses as Faith & Ethical Leadership; Leadership in Ministry; and sophomores seminars in Finding the Founders: Lives of Confucius, the Buddha, and Jesus; Thinking About Christian Faith; Religion and Literature.
 
Many recent religion graduates pursue church-related vocations like ordained ministry, religious education, church music or pastoral counseling. Others begin careers in social work, teaching, medicine, law, business or public service.
